Many of this country’s top lure anglers descended on the Froxfield stretch of the Kennett and Avon Canal for the 3rd round of the LL 150 Series on Saturday 5 November.
The day was cold and windy and with the canal cloudy at best everybody knew the day would be a challenge. After a briefing from the local bailiff the field of anglers shot off up and down the tow path in search of Perch and Pike.
A number of nice fish came out early doors with Carl Merchant (Herakles UK) catching a nice Perch of 37cm.
This was quickly followed by a brace of similar length Perch from Lee Garner from Team Pro Stripes.
Reports were coming in that several teams were catching regularly but not in the numbers we had seen at other events. By lunch time a number of teams were on 2.5 meters and the feeling was it would be a close run thing.
The ever constant “Perch Gang” managed to snaffle out a Pike of 68 cm while many anglers were finding the fishing were drying up.
At 3 o’clock cards were returned and added up, 6 teams managed over 3 meters which was a credit to their angling skills in tough conditions. For many it was no surprise to see local angler Adam Kirby with his good friend Dan Sisson of Team “Wet Bream” in runner up spot with a total length of 348cm. In first place was Matt Barnsley and Danny Hill aka “Perch Gang”, with their last gasp Pike they had managed to pip “Wet Bream” to first place with a total length of 388cm. With two third place finishes and now winning here “Perch Gang” go to top of the table, but they will have to keep their wits about them as if they have a bad match there are many teams behind them keen to take top spot. A big thank you to all our sponsors, Costa Del Mar, Major Craft, Z-Man, Black Flagg, Predator Tackle and Lure Lounge, with out you this event wouldn’t be possible! Until Oxford stay safe and tight lines!
